New Delhi:

As Israel reels under the worst-ever attack in the nation's 75-year history, families have been broken up and several lives cut short in the Sabbath attack by Hamas. Many others are dealing with unprecedented losses.

On Tuesday, the family and friends of an Israeli woman and her son, killed by Hamas operatives over two weeks ago when they stormed Israel from Gaza, gathered for their funeral.

15-year-old Carmel Bachar and his mother Dana lived in a small community. On the fateful day, as Carmel lay bleeding, he asked to be buried with his surfboard.

Today, as he was laid to rest with his surfboard, his father, Avida, who lost his legs in the October 7 attack, came in a wheelchair as nearly a hundred people marched with the coffins, holding Israel's flag.

Israel woke up to a dawn attack on October 7 when Hamas launched an all-out land-sea-air attack. A barrage of over 5,000 rockets toward Israel from the Gaza Strip.

Tel Aviv caught unawares by Hamas on October 7 has launched a blistering retaliation on the blockaded coastal enclave. The war has so far killed over 6,500 on both sides.
