Israel Hamas Live: Smoke billowed over residential Israeli areas as sirens sounded overhead.

Over 600 Israelis and around 370 in Gaza have been killed in a sudden and extensive attack launched by the Palestinian militant group Hamas on Saturday. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pledged to reduce Hamas' hideouts in Gaza to rubble in response to the attack.

The Palestinian death count in Gaza climbed to a minimum of 232 as a result of intense air strikes on the coastal enclave.

Throughout the night, intense gun battles ensued between Israeli forces and hundreds of Hamas fighters across at least 22 locations in Israel. This included at least two areas where gunmen were holding hostages, according to information provided by the Israeli army.

The army further stated that "terrorists rampaged and forcibly entered homes, resulting in the loss of civilian lives." Over 1,000 individuals in Israel sustained injuries from gunshots or the more than 3,000 incoming rockets.

Palestinian terrorist group Hamas said Sunday that the United States' plan to provide increased military aid to Israel amounts to "aggression" against Palestinians, after Washington ordered navy ships and warplanes closer to Israel.

"The announcement of the US that it will provide an aircraft carrier to support the occupation (Israel) is actual participation in the aggression against our people," Hamas, which on Saturday launched the deadliest attack ever against Israel, said in a statement.

Israel UN Envoy Decries "War Crimes", Vows To Obliterate Hamas Group
Israel's ambassador to the United Nations on Sunday accused Palestinian Islamist group Hamas of committing war crimes, vowing that it was time to "obliterate" Hamas terror infrastructure while seeking to keep normalization talks with Saudi Arabia on track, reported news agency Reuters.

In a dramatic assault launched from the Palestinian enclave of Gaza on Saturday, Hamas militants stormed into Israeli towns, killing more than 600 Israelis and escaping with dozens of hostages, in the deadliest day for Israel since the 1973 war.

"These are war crimes, blatant documented war crimes," Israel's UN Ambassador Gilad Erdan told reporters.

"The era of reasoning with these savages is over," he said. "Now is the time to obliterate Hamas terror infrastructure, to completely erase it, so that such horrors are never committed again."

Israel pounded Gaza on Sunday, killing hundreds of people in retaliation.

US To Send Munitions To Israel, Boost Forces In Region: Pentagon
The United States will provide munitions and equipment to Israel and boost American forces in the Middle East in response to the attacks by the Palestinian terror group Hamas, the Pentagon said Sunday, reported news agency AFP.

"The United States government will be rapidly providing the Israel Defense Forces with additional equipment and resources, including munitions," US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said in a statement.

The US defense chief also said he had directed the USS Gerald R. Ford, an aircraft carrier, and its accompanying warships to the eastern Mediterranean, and that Washington was augmenting fighter aircraft squadrons in the region.

India holds a highly significant position in the world, Naor Gilon, Israel's Ambassador to India, said, asserting that India's support is based on a deep understanding of terrorism rather than ignorance, reported news agency PTI.

"Our social media is full of people showing their support. And we appreciate it. We appreciate it very strongly. I'll tell you why. Because India, first of all, is a very important country in the world. Secondly, India comes from the position of a country that knows terrorism. Americans Among Hostages Taken By Hamas: Israel Ambassador To US

An unknown number of Americans are among the hostages that Hamas took as it attacked Israel from the Gaza Strip, the Israeli ambassador to the United States said Sunday, reported news agency AFP.

The diplomat, Michael Herzog, was asked on CBS News if there were Americans among the soldiers and civilians that the Palestinian militant group abducted in southern Israel.

"I understand there are, but I don't have details," he said.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken told US television on Sunday that the administration was working to check on reports that US citizens were among the dead and captive in the surprise Hamas assault that began Saturday.

Israel has said the attackers have taken soldiers and civilians hostage, but numbers and nationalities have not been confirmed.
