Jalazun refugee camp, Palestinian Territories:

Israeli troops opened fire on more than 100 Palestinian protesters in the northern West Bank on Friday, an AFP correspondent said, wounding at least one person.

Soldiers fired live rounds at Palestinian youths who hurled stones at them at the entrance to the Jalazun refugee camp north of the city of Ramallah, the correspondent said.

A 17-year-old boy was shot through the ankle, a medic told AFP, and was immediately evacuated to hospital as clashes continued.

The clashes came amid tensions as Israel prepares for a general election on Tuesday.

Palestinians have watched the upcoming snap vote with interest, keen for a change from rightwing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Likud party.

Likud was lagging in the polls on Friday behind the Zionist Union -- a joint list headed by Labour's Isaac Herzog and Tzipi Livni of the centrist HaTnuah, who was Israel's chief negotiator with the Palestinians during talks that broke down nearly a year ago.
