Gaza City, Palestinian Territories: Two Palestinian teenagers were killed and 10 people wounded by Israeli fire during clashes Saturday at the Gaza border fence, emergency medical services in the coastal enclave said.

Marwan Barbakh, 13, and Khalil Othman, 15, were killed east of Khan Yunis in southern Gaza, the medics said.

The Israeli army said during a "violent riot" in the southern Strip, "Palestinians entered the perimeter along the security fence, approached the fence, hauled rocks and rolled burning tyres at it".

Soldiers fired warning shots in the air, but when that failed to stop the Palestinians, "they fired toward main instigators", a spokeswoman told AFP.

The deaths come a day after similar clashes killed seven Palestinians and wounded 145 in the bloodiest fighting in the territory since the summer 2014 war.

Clashes with Israeli forces were also ongoing near the Erez crossing on the northern border of the Gaza Strip, east of Gaza City, and in central Gaza, where according to the army, "tens of suspects breached the fence".

"Five were caught by IDF forces and taken for questioning. The rest retreated back into Gaza," a statement from the military read.
