Gaza City:
Two Palestinian militants were killed and four others wounded on Tuesday by Israeli fire in the Hamas-run Gaza Strip, medics said.
The two were killed in an air raid in the Maghazi area in the centre of the territory, a strike that also wounded two others, they said.
The raid following exchanges of fire between troops and militants near the Kissufim border crossing to the east of Maghazi, which wounded two Palestinians.
According to witnesses, the exchange of fire came after a blast went off near an Israeli military jeep that was driving in the area.
The army had no immediate comment on the reports, but a military source said that troops opened fire at armed gunmen as the latter were trying to place explosives near the border barrier between the Jewish state and the Palestinian territory.
Relative calm has reigned in Gaza since January 18, when Israel and Hamas declared mutual ceasefires ending a 22-day war that the Jewish state waged on the territory in response to consistent rocket fire.
Egypt has been brokering talks to turn the ceasefires into a lasting truce.
Tuesday's incidents come ahead of the swearing-in of a new government in Israel later in the day, led by hawkish Benjamin Netanyahu.
