A day after Japan was struck by a powerful earthquake of 7.5 magnitude, the country lifted all tsunami warnings and advisories put in place after a major quake on New Year's Day, a meteorological agency official told AFP on Tuesday. At least 48 people have been killed by the massive quake jolted Japan.
Small changes to tidal levels are still possible, the official said, a day after triggered tsunami waves over a metre high reached the coast.

"It was such a powerful jolt," Tsugumasa Mihara, 73, told news agency AFP as he queued with hundreds of others for water in the town of Shika. "What a terrible way to start the year," he said.
