Japanese volcano erupts, shatters windows for miles

Miyazaki (Japan): Shinmoedake volcano in southern Japan erupted again on Tuesday shooting out a huge plume of gas, boulders and ash and breaking windows miles away.

This was the largest eruption since the volcano burst back to life last week after 52 years. However no serious injuries have been reported.

Many flights in and out of Miyazaki, about one thousand kilometres southwest of Tokyo, have been grounded in the last week. Train service was temporarily suspended in the area and many schools remained closed.

The local government has also reported damages to crops.

Experts said a dome of lava was growing larger inside the 5000-foot crater; however it was not certain whether the dome would grow enough to spill over the rim and create large flows down the volcano's sides.
