Vice President Joe Biden will attend USA games at the World Cup in Brazil and meet President Dilma Rousseff, the White House said on Thursday, as Washington bids to shore up relations soured by a damaging spying row.
The administration of US President Barack Obama has courted Brazil - seen as a promising export market for US goods - but ties were strained last year when it was revealed that US intelligence agents had monitored Rousseff's personal communications.
In a phone call on Thursday to Rousseff, Biden said he plans to watch the United States play Ghana in Natal on June 16, and will meet the Brazilian leader the next day in the capital Brasilia, a statement said.
"The Vice President reaffirmed the importance of the bilateral relationship and underscored our commitment to advancing the US-Brazil cooperation in a broad range of areas," it added.
"The Vice President and President Rousseff also discussed regional developments and the importance of working together with other countries in the Americas to address current political, economic, and social challenges."
