Karachi:
Pakistan military's most well-guarded installation in Karachi came under a brazen attack last night when 20-25 terrorists stormed three hangars at the Mehran naval aviation base.
At least 10 people have been killed in the attack and the gunbattle is still on, even after 12 hours.
The Pakistan Taliban have claimed the responsibility for the attack. In a statement, the Taliban said the attack was revenge for Osama's killing.
"We had already warned after Osama's martyrdom that we will carry out even bigger attacks," Taliban spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan told foreign agencies from an undisclosed location in northwest Pakistan.
He also said that the attackers sent into PNS Mehran naval base had enough supplies to survive a three-day siege.
Fifteen loud explosions were heard from the base, the headquarters of Pakistan's naval air arm, following the attack and intermittent firing was reported till this morning.
