Colombo:

Those who have travelled to the beautiful country of Sri Lanka would have seen the stark contrast of a wonderful peaceful people contrasted with a nation torn apart by terrorism and civil war.

After 30 years, the people can finally look forward to the peace and calm they deserve. The Sri Lankan army has killed the leader of the LTTE, Velupilllai Prabhakaran. The man they called the biggest terrorist in the world is now dead and now the people of the beautiful island can look forward to growth and development

He was killed after being cornered in a bunker. The Sri lankan Army claim that Prabhakaran was trying to flee with top aides in an ambulance and that is when he was shot dead.

The Army surrounded Prabhakaran and around 200 rebels in a small patch of a beach in north-east Sri Lanka.

Hours earlier, the Army announced that it found the body of Prabhakaran's elder son Charles Anthony, the head of the Tigers' Air Wing and 18 other top leaders.

"Some of the bodies that we recovered during the confrontation, it was confirmed that the LTTE leader's son, Charles Anthony is dead and we found his dead body," said Brig Udaya Nanyakkara, Spokesperson, Sri Lanka Army.

Prabhakaran was seen by India as a terrorist. Since 1983, he has been behind a number of political assassinations including that of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, including a bid to kill former Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga.

But it's not clear whether the Tiger chief was killed on Monday or earlier.

Two days ago, the Sri Lankan President had declared victory in the almost 3 decade long battle that has claimed more than 70,000 lives.

Late on Monday evening, a victory ceremony was also held in Colombo.

So, the war may be over and a ruthless terrorist killed, his group wiped out. But, the Tamil fight for their political rights is far from over.
