Libyan rebel leader arrives in China for talks
Beijing: Keeping up with its policy to maintain links with both sides in the Libyan conflict, China today received Chairman of the Arab country's rebel council, days after it hosted Muammar Gaddafi's representative.

Chairman of the Executive Board of Libyan National Transitional Council Mahmoud Jibril arrived here today on a two-day visit during which he will hold talks with Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi.

It is the first time that a Libyan Opposition leader has come to China since the outbreak of violent protests against Gaddafi regime in February. Hong didn't specify details of Jibril's schedule in China, but called for both sides in Libya to agree to a ceasefire and begin negotiations to resolve the crisis through political means.

On June 7, Gaddafi's special envoy Abdelati Obeidi made a surprise visit here and held talks with Yang.
