Second is Jared Tallent of Australia with a new personal best timing of 3:36.53. China's Si Tianfeng is in the bronze medal place with another personal best timing of 3:37.16. Still waiting for the Indian to finish.
Athletics: India's Basant Bahadur Rana is now 40th as the 50km race walk nears its end. His timing was 3:32.40 after 45kms.
Athletics: The 50km walk is into frenzy zone now. The frontrunners are speeding away. The 'tailenders' trying hard. Some athletes have no option but to give up. India's Basant Bahadur Rana meanwhile marches on. He finished 40km with a time of 3:09.09. He improved a bit on ranking, 43rd now.
Athletics: It is past 35km now and India's Basant Bahadur Rana is currently 49th overall. His timing 2:45.24. Seven athletes are out of the 50km race walk.
Wrestling: India's Yogeshwar Dutt has his bout in the 60-kg freestyle at around 17:39 Indian time. He is to face Anatolie Ilarionovitch Guidea of Bulgaria in the qualifications round. Remember, Yogeshwar reached the quarter-final at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and lost a close fight to Kenichi Yumoto of Japan. His coach was apparently fumed at his loss. He will probably go a step further this time with experience to back him.
Athletics: Basant Bahadur Rana is 53rd after 30km in the 50-km race walk. His timing 2:21.51. The leaders timing 2:10.49.

Hockey: India go down 2-3 to South Africa and finish last at the London Olympics. The aggression they displayed at the end was not enough to pull off a miracle. This is their worst ever show at the Games having not won a single game.
Hockey: India score a second through a field goal from Dharamvir Singh. Trail 2-3 now. Two minutes is all they have to equalise.
Hockey: India now trail 1-3 after Norris Jones scores a third goal for the South Africans. The writing seems on the wall now. India will finish the last. Only 4 minutes to go.
Athletics: 10 kms gone and India's Basant Bahadur Rana times 47:13 and is in 52nd place in the 50-km walk. The leaders are timing 44:15, which is over 3 minutes difference with the Indian. The field has 63 competitors.
Hockey: India get a couple of penalty corners. Missed from the first one, got another, missed again. Still trail 1-2. Sad but true, India has never gone an Olympic without winning a game and it looks like they will this time.
Hockey: Indian look shabby in defence and shoddy in attack. S V Sunil misses a sitter and so does the woefully out of form Shivendra. Just cannot score a goal India despite multiple opportunities within minutes.
Hockey: By the way, Manpreet Singh is back on the field with a bandaged head. Means all is well on that front.
Athletics: The best timing after 5-km was 22 minutes,12 seconds by six walkers in the pack from a total of 63 competing today.
Hockey: Second half is under way. Score still 2-1 in South Africa's favour after 6 minutes of play.
Athletics: After 5km in the 50-km walk, India's Basant Bahadur Rana with a time of 23:34 is at 52nd place. This is just the beginning though.
It was Timothy Drummond who scored the second one for South Africa.
Hockey: Another card. This time a yellow for India's VR Raghunath. And South Africa score a second just before half-time. Lead 2-1 against a hapless looking Indian side at the break.
Hockey: Now, Norris Jones, who was the one behind Manpreet's injury, is out of the field after getting a green card. Everything it seems is related to Manpreet today. Still hope that he is fine. Meanwhile India go for a referral and lose the appeal. They can't appeal again in the match.
Hockey: SK Uthappa, who came in for injured Manpreet, has got a green card and is briefly out of the field.
Athletics: The 50-km walk has begun now. India's Basant Bahadur Rana with a best of 4:02.13 is competing. The field has runners ranging with times from 3:35.47 (Australia's Deakes Nathan) to 4:08.51 (Vitaliy Anichkin of Kazakhstan). The world record in the event is 3:34.14 and the Olympic record 3:37.09.
Hockey: Sandeep Singh scores for India from the penalty corner. 1-1 now.
Athletics: Meanwhile, Basant Bahadur Rana's 50-km walk final will begin in 15 minutes. His best timing has been 4:02.13. The 28-year old from Chamkipur, Punjab is not amongst the best in the business but will be looking to give his best at the Olympics.
Andrew Cronje scored the goal in a very 'dirty' but effective effort.
South Africa get a goal, seven minutes into the game. A scrambling effort. Lead India 1-0.
Meanwhile SK Uthappa is on in Manpreet's place. Skipper and goalie Bharat Chetri is not playing today and Sreejesh, playing in his place, makes a good save.
Manpreet off on a stretcher. Hope he is fine. Will get back on that later.
Hockey: The match is underway and India's Manpreet Singh is down after being hit on the side of the head by South African forward Norris Jones. Seems nasty.
Hockey: Indian team will look to play for pride here. The South Africans are looking bright and in jovial mood but Indian players are not so. They should learn from their opponents here. A strong feeling that the Men in Blue take things too seriously sometimes when it is meant to be otherwise.
Hello and welcome to the penultimate day at the London Olympics 2012. It has been quite a journey and we have had immense pleasure in bringing you all the action. In case you missed some from the last night, here is a brief round up of the same. The Indian performance was nothing to write home about but we can still expect a couple of surprises. Here is India campaign for today. The Indian hockey team will want to save some grace from the Games when they take on South Africa to avoid being classified as the last team. Not much will be expected from 50-km walk athlete Basant Bahadur Rana but Yogeshwar Dutt is surely carrying some hope for the Indian fans.

The hockey match should start in just about 20 minutes. Stay tuned.
