That is it for the day from the London Olympics 2012. Catch all the live updates and more with NDTV later today as well. India has many events lined up and hopefully the athletes will deliver.
Swimming: France claim the Gold in the men's 4x100m freestyle relay pipping the United States consisting of Phelps, Lochte. Michael Phelps wins his 17th Olympic medal (and first silver!) to move within one medal of Larissa Latynina's record of 18.
Tennis: Somdev Devvarman loses his first round match 3-6, 1-6 to Jarkko Nieminen. Another disappointment.
Shooting: US shooter Kim Rhode created history at the Games with a Gold in the women's skeet today. She is now America's first individual medallist at five consecutive Olympic Games.

Olympics: More controversies. Mahesh Bhupathi said on social media that he found it agonisingly absurd not to have got a ticket for wifey Lara Dutta after being in queue for six hours and despite the stadiums being empty. Another story has come in that says soldiers are apparently filling up some seats at the Games. Sebastian Coe, the LOCOG committee chief, has took up a defensive stance on the issue.
Athletics: Ethiopian legend Haile Gebrselassie has said that it was 'painful' for him not to be participating in the Olympics 2012 but still hopes for a Rio 2016 return.
The tennis events have been hampered by rain at the Olympics. Meanwhile here are some other updates from the Games. Maurice Greene, former Olympic 100m champion, has backed Yohan Blake to pip Usain Bolt in the 100m event at the Games.
The 'mystery' deepens: Father of Madhura Nagendra, the woman in question, insists that his daughter was there to perform at the inaugural ceremony. Apparently she was there in the dance troupe. He also says 'sorry' to have hurt the contingent's feelings. Read story here

Phillips was denied the chance to compete at Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 after her horse Toytown succumbed to injury. (Agency inputs AFP)

Badminton: India's Jwala Gutta/V Diju are the latest casualties and are out of contention now in the mixed doubles. Jwala/Diju lost 12-21, 16-21 to Danish pair of Laybourn/Juhl in their second group match at the Olympics.

Another athlete out: A female athlete from Uzbekistan has been suspended for doping.

Luiza Galiulina is the second athlete, after Albanian weightlifter Hysen Pulaku, to have been suspended over the course of the last three days.
Here is the latest from Wimbledon. Heavy downpour has begun here and only the centre court is operational with the roof firmly in place.

All right. A bit of despair is being observed from readers in the comment section below. While our athletes may not have had the best of starts, here is an image of will and determination that continues to exist in some, in India.

This child, suffering from the effects of the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy, crosses the line at the end of a 25m walk organised earlier this week.

All right. The latest from the All England Lawn Tennis Club is that....well, it is still raining.

BIG NEWS coming in though is that India's Vishnu Vardhan has been handed a late place in the singles as event as replacement for Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber. How about that for some good fortune?
In the mood for a feature? How about this judo player who says she defied odds, and her parents, when she took to the sport. Today, she has a gold medal to justify her choice!

And on a completely different note, here is the Royal Artillery Barracks - venue of the shooting events.

So on a day which has largely been disappointing for India, the feeling has been shared by several other participants as well.

Here is  Albania's Majlinda Kelmendi who lost her 52-kg judo match.

Tennis update: It is drizzling around the All England Lawn Tennis Club. Matches have been put on a slight hold right now. A reminder that India's Somdev Devvarman was supposed to begin his campaign here half an hour back.
And that is it for India's Soumyajit Ghosh who goes down to North Korea's Hyok Bong Kim. He loses the second round match 1-4.
Break from Table Tennis and focus shifts to All England Lawn Tennis Club where Somdev Devvarman is getting ready to begin his campaign.
Soumyajit has lost the fourth game as well. It is not looking too good for him at the moment. Unless he mounts a massive fightback, the North Korean at the other end of the table will ease to a comprehensive win.
The Indian paddler looks to be under pressure but is not letting the game slip away in the fourth round.
Soumyajit Ghosh trails his North Korean opponent by 1 game to 2.
The match between India's Soumyajit Ghosh and Hyok Bong Kim has begun at the table tennis venue.
India's Sandeep Kumar and Manjit Singh are unable to earn a direct path into the semis of the double sculls rowing event.

It  means they are headed for the repechage to be held later.
Be prepared as bad news awaits from the men's lightweight double sculls heat as well.
Back to rowing and Sandeep Kumar and Manjit Singh are off in the men's lightweight double sculls heat.
And the rivalry which was being focused on before the Indians came out to compete? Well, New Zealand women took the 'bragging rights' this time with a 1-0 win against Australia in hockey.
Looking for India's moment of pride from the day? Here it is.

Sawarn Singh looks exhausted but he must be elated having won the single sculls repechage heat and gaining an entry into the quarterfinal round.

Next up is paddler Soumyajit Ghosh who will play in the second round at 1530 hrs. Also an eye out on the men's lightweight double sculls heat where India's Sandeep Kumar and Manjit Singh will row at 1540 hrs.
Bad news again this time. Despite a superb effort, India's Heena Sidhu fails to qualify for the final of the 10m air pistol shooting event. She shoots 382 (93-97-97-95).
It is always good to mix the bad things with the rather good ones.

So as Sawarn Singh qualifies for the quarterfinal event in rowing and Heena Sidhu is doing really well in the 10m air pistol shooting event, no such joy from the archery event.
Back to the 10m air pistol event and Heena Sidhu is firing powerful aces.
Sawarn Singh looked at complete ease as he took the lead early and maintained it till the finish line.
And he does it...

Sawarn Singh qualifies for the quarterfinal of the singles rowing event.
Meanwhile, India's Sawarn Singh has the lead in the men's single sculls repechage heat.
Heena Sidhu is on fire. Six 10s after six shots in the 10m air pistol event.
Heena Sidhu and Annu Raj Singh make a comeback after an ordinary start to their 10m air pistol event.
Moving on to another event: Shooting

The 10m air pistol event has begun with India's Heena Sidhu in the fray.
So not a good start to this Sunday for the Indians. The final archery scoreline was 210-211 against India.
Not meant to be for Indian fans. If there are any here from Denmark, good news!!! Denmark eliminate India in the women's team archery event.

The Indians are here....

Indian women archery team takes on Denmark and gets a huge reception at the venue. Will they? Won't they? Find all about it here.
Seen the Riverbank Arena? The venue features a blue turf for the first time, a decision which has not gone down too well with many including India coach Michael Nobbs. See and judge for yourself...

According to fresh reports coming in from the Riverbank Arena, New Zealand women have taken an early 1-0 lead against Australia.
It is always riveting to see traditional rivals battle it out for bragging rights.

In the current context, both Australia and New Zealand have the added incentive of medals to prove they can outshine each other on the blue hockey turf here.
And in a completely different part of London, women have come out to battle with their sticks!

Australia play New Zealand in their Group B hockey preliminary match at the Riverbank Arena.
Interesting fact: London has procured 8000 shuttlecocks for the Olympic Games!
And we are off...

Badminton kick starts with Japan vs Suriname.
The events are about to begin in London and there is absolutely no dip in excitement in the third day of sporting action.

Badminton is the first event which will begin on Sunday.
Lots of action in tennis as well.

Andy Murray plays Stanislas Wawrinka at 1400 hrs. Maria Sharapova will fight Shahr Peer at 1600 hrs and Frenchman Jo-Wilfred Tsonga will play Brazil's Thomaz Bellucci at 1800 hrs
We are approaching the start of day's play. Lot of events lined up which will surely make this a super Sunday. While the Indian campaign starts in the 10m air pistol qualifications, watch out for some thrilling football matches as well.

Brazil plays Belarus while Uruguay take on Senegal.
Speaking of weather and beach volleyball, expect players to dump their bikinis and come out in their skin suits if the weather continues to be on the colder side.
Weather update: Absolutely clear skies over London. The weather though is slightly chilly at 13 degree Celsius.

Forecast for the day though is not very encouraging. Thunder storm is predicted which can dampen spirits at events such as beach volleyball.

UK weather is known to be unpredictable however and here is hoping for the forecast to change as the day progresses.
Interesting report this in the Associated Press. Organisers in London are planning to investigate empty seats in the Aquatics centre.

India's Mahesh Bhupathi had tweeted last night that he was in line for six hours to buy tickets for his wife so that she could see him play on Sunday. "Still no luck, and the grounds here feel empty. ABSURD," he wrote.
Here is a recap in pics of medal winners from Day 2 in London. While no Indian is in this gallery, there is also no real reason to worry with most of the action still left in the Games.
Special mention: Saina Nehwal will take on Sabrina Jaquet of Switzerland in her opening singles round match as well.
Disappointments aside, there is a lot to look forward to from the Indians today.

Jai Bhagwan has his match in the 60 kgs category.

Heena Sidhu and Annu Raj Singh will compete in the 10 m air pistol qualifications.

Soumyajit Ghosh will play his second round table tennis match.

Somdev Devvarman will also feature in his opening round match in tennis while Mahesh Bhupathi/Rohan Bopanna will be seen in the doubles event. A little after their match, Leander Paes and Vishnu Bardhan will also take to the court.

So, a very interesting day is in store for the Indian fans. Get all the updates here on NDTV
As for the Indians, it was a rather disappointing start.

While Vijender Singh brought cheer to the Indian camp late on Saturday night, Sania and Rushmi could not do the same on the tennis court.

There was some heart-break on the badminton courts as well. Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponappa could not mount a challenge and lost their match against the Chinese. Jwala had also lost her match with mixed doubles partner V Diju earlier.

In archery, Indian men were knocked out by Japan in a tense pre-quarterfinal.
While Britain is still in the wee hours of the morning, the previous day was an eventful one.

Roger Federer and Serena Williams showed their full form on the tennis court. While Federer was made to fight a bit for his victory, Serena had Michelle Obama's support.

China became the first to secure a gold medal in the 2012 Games as Yi Siling shot her way to glory.

There was however, some disappointment as well as Li Na crashed out.
A very warm welcome to all as we get set for Sunday's action to unfold in London. The weather has turned a bit chilly but the spirits have been high and appear as if they will keep soaring as the days go by.
