That is all from Tuesday's outing in London. Wednesday will bring more hope and still better results for Indians. It is a prayer, not a prediction.

On that note, goodbye for the night.
AND ALSO IN PICS:

Some of the medal winners from the day here.
So Tuesday comes to an end as far as the Indians are concerned. Here is a look at how the Indians fared, in pics.
Excellent way to end what has otherwise been a tad disappointing Tuesday for the Indian contingent. First Devendro Singh and now Manoj Kumar advances.

Contrasting strategies from the two boxers  but same result. Hope from boxing widens...

THAT IS A WIN:

Excellent 13-7 win for Manoj Kumar who is now in the round of 16 (64kg category)!
The bell rings...Manoj it is...waiting for the official verdict though.
Manoj is not experimenting. It is a good, clean and simple strategy from the Indian and it is clicking...seconds left now.
Serdar Hudayberdiyev appears slightly exhausted. This is shaping up really well for Manoj. Let's just forget the first round ever happened. This is great work in round two and three...
All Manoj needs to do now is hold on. Seems to be doing it well as the clock runs down in the third round.
Manoj takes a four point lead at the end of two. What a comeback. Brilliant second round.
Three big rights from Manoj out of nowhere. Indian fans mighty pleased here...
A bit lucky for Manoj to have tied the opening round. Second round has Serdar Hudayberdiyev on the attack once again.
Opening round ends. Close but not Manoj's way. SCORE shows 2-2 though.
Hudayberdiyev may have just picked up a point or two but very subdued effort here.
No major punches from either of the two boxers yet in the first round. WATCHFUL...
This is the 64kg clash. Manoj Kumar gets a rousing welcome despite the late hour...
AND WE ARE ON...

India's Manoj Kumar coming out against Serdar Hudayberdiyev of Turkmenistan.
Slight delay in Manoj Kumar's match. In the meantime, here is a look at the emotion of the day...

Why is she crying? Read report here.

And now the match featuring Manoj Kumar of India is minutes away. 0215 (IST) to be absolutely precise...
So, India 32nd as of this minute in the medals tally. We have a bronze. Great!

Bad news: China has 10 golds, USA has 7.

Good news: India has some medal hopefuls still in with a solid chance: Saina Nehwal, Vijender Kumar and Gagan Narang/Abhinav Bindra to name a few.
And in other, much lighter news:

Here is Google's new doodle
RECAP OF SOMETHING GOOD: If you thought it was a miserable day for India in the Olympic Games on Tuesday, spare a thought for this boxer.

Devendro Singh won his 49kg in the first round itself. Power, strength and aggression in the perfect mix. (Read report here)

Coming up in the meanwhile...more reports and some interesting galleries:
And this was not even a defeat. Far from it...sublime performance...
It is bad reading about an ouster but defeat is as much a part of sports as victory.

BADMINTON: Match report from Jwala/Ashwini match on Tuesday.
So even champions can make rookie mistakes. Look at Phelps!

A message issued in larger interest of  Indian fans who may be reeling under what has been a rather torrid Tuesday!
STUNNING UPSET. WHAT A SWIM....

Chad le Clos beats Michael Phelps to claim the goal. Phelps leads throughout but misses out in the final mili-second 1:53:01 against 1:52:96 of le Clos!
There is more in store and no not from Indian athletes.

Michael Phelps comes out to a rousing reception. He will compete in the 200m butterfly event!
CONFIRMING THE BAD NEWS

The numbers have been looked into again and again and nowhere is there a chance for Jwala/Ashwini to advance despite their win today.

What an irony! Things were beginning to fall into place for the two...
RULEBOOK TIME:

Most calculations showed a win needed by a margin of 8. Now statisticians are saying there is still a chance for Ashwini/Jwala. Numbers being crunched as confirmation is awaited.
Jwala/Ashwini seal the match 21-16, 21-15 but miss out on a chance to advance to the quarterfinals.
It is 18-14 now. All over as far as advancing is concerned for the Indians.
15-11. Jwala and Ashwini can give away just 2 more points.
14-7 for the Indians. Again a reminder. Jwala and Ashwini need to seal the set by a margin of 8 points to advance.
It's 12-4. Wembley is reverberating with the sounds of cheer for Jwala and Ashwini.
Jwala taking the lead. Smashing with full force. India 11-1 against Singapore.
Lot of support for the Indians. It is 10-1 now against Singapore's Shinta Mulia/Lei Yao.
The Singapore players are caving in. They are making errors which helps Jwala/Ashwini go 8-0 up.
7-0. This is getting really sweet for the Indians.
Good start. GREAT START. 6-0 for Jwala/Ashwini.
Jwala/Ashwini take the first set 21-16.

NOTE:  The Indians now need to win by a margin of at least 21-13 in the second game to advance.
A brilliant start is now giving way to a bit of a drag from the Indians' side. The score though is 19-14 in their favour.
DISAPPOINTED?

Well over to some better news from BADMINTON.

Jwala/Ashwini are smashing their way against Shinta Mulia/Lei Yao of Singapore.
Tennis: Bhupathi/Bopanna out from the Olympics men's doubles tennis after a 3-6, 4-6 loss to Benneteau/Gasquet. Another one down for the Indian contingent at the 2012 Games.
Tennis: Bhupathi/Bopanna trail 4-5 in the second set after their serve was broken by Benneteau/Gasquet.
Bhupathi/Bopanna take a slight lead. 4-3 against the French.
ALL LEVEL in the men's doubles event:

Bhupathi/Bopanna are unable to build on their 3-0 advantage. It is now 3-3 in the second with momentum against them.
BATTLE on centre court ends:

Maria Sharapova through to the third round. Beats Laura Robson of Britain 7-6, 6-3.

Here though is Robson in action from the match. Her spirit was well appreciated by home fans gathered here.

DOUBLES EVENT: Gasquet/Benneteau now claw back against Bhupathi/Bopanna. The Indians lead 3-2 in the second set.
WHAT a match on the centre court meanwhile. The Briton is making Maria Sharapova sweat and puff for her win.

Laura Robson is 3-4 in the second set against the Russian after narrowly losing the opening set.
Enough with words then...just plain updates as Gasquet/Benneteau now bring back a game. 3-1 in favour of the Indians in the second set.

Recap: Bhupathi/Bopanna lost the opening set.
Can keep making CORRECTIONS if that is the word that gives the Indians a win....

Correction: Make that 3-0 for the Indians in the second set...a comeback coming up  in  a big way!
Correction: Just make that 2-0 in favour of the Indians. Yes, they look a bit more determined now or is it too early?
BACK to live action: Bhupathi/Bopanna have taken a 1-0 lead in the second set after Frenchmen Gasquet/Benneteau took the first 6-3.
And Murray? Well, he is determined to make his mark after Wimbledon 2012, isn't he?

And when Venus came out to play, it was more or less the same result...

Here is the report from another match from the day. And what a complete annihilation it was.
Djokovic crushes Roddick to send warning signals

The French claim the first set against Bopanna and Bhupathi. 6-3 was the scoreline in the opener.
BACK with the Indians and...

...Bhupathi/Bopanna now 3-5 behind Gasquet/Benneteau.
BREAK Update: Maria Sharapova is being made to fight hard for her win as she battles Britain's Laura Robson. (7-6, 3-1 in favour of Maria)
Not working for the Indians again. It is 5-2 against them as Gasquet and Benneteau look to be more agile than their Indian opponents.
That is more like it, isn't it? Bhupathi/Bopanna not letting their opponents walk away with the set. Reclaim to, still, trail 2-4.
The French break through. Bhupathi/Bopanna now trail 1-4.
May be the words here are jinxed. There is a battle raging on now with no side willing to submit. India trail France 1-3 in the opening set.
It appears that the Frenchmen are racing against the clock. The match has taken 15 minutes of their 'busy' schedule. As long as the result is in their favour, tactics cannot be questioned.
Focus back on TENNIS: Frenchmen Gasquet and Benneteau have taken a 3-1 lead against Bhupathi and Bopanna, in the opening set.
No more hopes then from men's archery. Tarundeep Rai's campaign comes to a halt. He surrenders but in hindsight, did well to reach the round of 16, with some luck of course. Nothing against his abilities though.

Two arrows in the red from Tarundeep. The South Korean will not make the same mistake. Shoots two 10s in the fourth.
The Korean loses the third. Buckles under pressure as Tarundeep shoots two 10s.
Bubmin seems to have more support going his way. And wait...Tarundeep is doing it again. He is fighting back with two 10s.
The Korean has shot four 10s in a row. He is making it very difficult for Tarundeep.
Kim Bubmin of South Korea is leading Tarundeep 2-0.
Archery: Tarundeep Rai is back competing for a right to advance..
Gasquet/Benneteau beat Fleming/Hutchins in their opener. (7-5, 6-3)
Bhupathi/Bopanna beat Mirnyi/Bury in their opening doubles match. (6-7, 7-6, 8-6)
Julien Benneteau is 30 and Richard Gasquet is 26. They face an Indian pair who are aged 38 (Bhupathi) and 32 (Bopanna).

Will it be a case of age vs experience or just a matter of which side has a better day?
Tennis: Bhupathi and Bopanna are about to begin their doubles match against Gasquet and Benneteau (France).
While we wait for more live events to unfold featuring India, do check out How Indians fared on Day 5 in pics

Pressure and more and more of it. Tarundeep seems to be caving in after opening with a 10 in the fifth.
Are we looking at a golden arrow shootout? Indian fans must be praying for it since Tarundeep continues to trail.
Tarundeep survives by taking the fourth set against JC Stevens.
It is slipping away from Tarundeep. He loses here and that is it as far as his campaign in London Olympics is concerned.
