Shooters will shoot in pair
The first series of 4-second starts
And Vijay Kumar's event starts
Hockey: It is not about winning or losing that matters now, as far as Indian hockey goes, it is more about the way they play their game and it has been anything but convincing in the first half. But this has gone on for too long now. Some serious overhaul is needed today and in general too.
Shooting: Vijay Kumar's 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Final about to start
Hockey: Germany dismissing India at the Olympics. Lead 4-1 now, with another field goal. Poor defence. Christopher Wesley got the fourth for the Germans. Another goal could have followed soon but Germany missed. Indian trail 1-4 at the half-time.
Tushar Khandekar misses a sitter. Do not think that Indian forwards prepare hard or work on their finishing, easier said than done though. Indian finishing remains a massive concern or the games they lose might have been closer. Still trail 1-3, nearing the first half's end.
Nobbs looking a distraught man on the sidelines. Indian hockey is not looking in great shape.
Oliver Korn scores another one for Germany. Lead 3-1 now against India.
Florian Fuchs has scored both the goals for the Germans via field efforts.
Germany looking extremely dangerous here. A barrage of attacks on the Indian goal has left the defence rattled. The Indians looking down and out.
As usual, Germany hit back within minutes and lead 2-1 against India now. Poor defending costs us again.
India's V Raghunath scores from the penalty corner to level the scores against Germany at 1-1. We are 21 minutes into the first half.
India get their first penalty corner.
Hockey: Indian team looking at odds against the reigning Olympic champions. Germany has rocked with all out attacks. India has managed just a single shot on goal as of now.
Hockey: Germany is leading 1-0 against India. An early setback for the Men in Blue.
Hockey: India vs Germany match is about to start. An uphill battle for India but since they have got nothing to lose really, playing against the Olympic hockey title holders, the Men in Blue should definitely go all out here.
Shot Put: Om Prakash has not qualified in the men's category.
Sorry for the delay. There were technical glitches at our end.

Vijay Kumar's final event will be at 19:00 PM IST
50m air rifle prone final: Sergei Martinov of Belarus claims the gold. Lionel Cox of Belgium and Rajmond Debevec of Slovakia finish second and third respectively.

Vijay Kumar, who had scored 293 in the stage 1 of the qualification, scored 98, 97, 97 in the second stage to take his total score to 585. Vijay finished fourth among the top six shooters who qualified for the final event.
Good shooting from Karmakar but not good enough to get him a bronze.
Joydeep Karmakar's 50 m Air Rifle Prone Final event has begun
Clarification:

Vijay Kumar did shoot 585 which was better than the Olympic record (before the start of this event) of 583.

However, since Alexei Klimov shot 592 just before Vijay, the record had been re-set to that of the Russian.

The current Olympic record therefore, stands changed to 592.
Vijay Kumar has also broken the Olympic Record of 583, by scoring 585. (Stands edited)
Russian shooter Alexei Klimov has created a new World Record in Men's 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Shooting qualifications.

He scored a total of 592 after Stage 2 breaking the World Record of 591 and Olympic Record of 583, with 294 points in Stage 1 and a whopping 298 in Stage 2.

He will be the gold medal favourite in the finals.

Top 3 made it while there was a 9-way tie for the remaining 5 positions.

Karmakar shot 51.6 to finish fourth out of the nine shooters in the shoot-out.

Over-all: Karmakar ranked 7th in the qualification round.

Michael McPhail (USA), Nemanja Mirosavljev (Serbia), Peter Sidi (Hungary) and Artem Khadjibekov (Russia) bow out of the event in the shoot-out.

SHOOTOUT...SHOOTOUT

9-way tie. Karmakar still in with a chance...
FANS FROM INDIA, if any:

Karmakar now 10th. Event is still on though.
FANS FROM BELARUS, if any:

Sergei Martynov has shot a perfect 600! 'We' confirm he is through to the final.
Karmakar pushed to ninth. This is nerve-wrecking!
Karmakar's outing today:

99-98-100-98-100-100

Narang's outing today:

98-100-100-98-97-100

Narang is officially OUT. Sad but what about Karmakar? Still waiting.
It is a 100. It is a 100!!!

Karmakar leaves with a bang. Is 8th. JUST THERE. Will he be toppled?
Now up to 12. It has been a good fight from the shooter from Kolkata.
Karmakar is 13th and finishing the final series.
Top 8 qualify for final. Gagan currently 18th and can only go further down!
And ahoy! Joydeep Karmakar shoots a 100 in the fifth series of 50m air rifle prone.

May overtake Gagan but qualification? Unlikely.
593 then for Gagan....enough? Confirmation awaited but looks unlikely.
GAGAN shoots a 100 to finish with 593 from six series.
Looks like after badminton, there will be more sad news for Indian fans from the Royal Artillery Barracks here....
Joydeep Karmakar shoots a 97 in his fourth series. Losing his way now!
It is 97 from the fifth for Narang. Not good. Not good at all. Does not look enough but final result only after six series.
As things are shaping up here, a fightback is clearly not enough. A consistent performance pays rich dividends. Narang, Karmakar playing the catch-up game!
So, how are the other shooters faring?

Belarus' Sergei Martynov shoots 100-100-100-100 and is into his fifth...
And back to SHOOTING

Karmakar fighting hard too. After two 98s, he now loads and takes back a 100 from third series.
MEANWHILE, Saina has been knocked out of the Olympic semis. She fought well though. (Read here)
REMINDER: This is the qualification round.
Gagan Narang shoots a 98 in his fourth series. This after 2 back-to-back 100s
Menwhile, Gagan Narang firing away in his fourth series...
He had a long wait but Karmakar has taken 98 from the second series. That means he now has 197 from two. Will start the third series now.

Decent but is it going to be enough?
Consolidated scores at the end of six series will show ranks. Gagan has 326 into 4th, Joydeep 187 in 2.
Long and slightly confusing story cut short...consolidated scores after six rounds will determine rankings.
Narang now in his fourth series. There are six. He needs to maintain this momentum. Had 98 in the opener.
Gagan Narang shoots another 100. That is two 100s on the trot after three series.
Gagan now aiming for the final few of his third series. Has 80 points. Maximum possible is a 100.
Well however may not be good enough. To put it all in perspective...aim at 100 to have a chance to qualify..
Narang is shaping up well in the third! Has 40...
Gagan Narang in third series. Joydeep Karmakar still in his second after scoring 99 in the first.
It is absolutely close in the field. This is what happens when 61 shooters fight it out with their guns...
These results fluctuate since early shooters have a consolidated score which will, obviously, be better than the shooters taking aim down the field. Narang and Karamakar began about 10 minutes after the first shooter.

Are 19 and 34 but it is changing.
Gagan Narang shoots a perfect 100 in the second of six series' 50m air rifle prone. Now that is more like it. Still below what should be considered a decent place to be, in the entire field of shooters.
Joydeep Karmakar takes 99, one more than Gagan Narang in the first of six series.
Karmakar continues in the first series. Has 79 now.
Gagan Narang shoots a 98 in the first series of six. More shots coming up. Joydeep Karmakar has a 70.
And they are taking aim. Both Indians together...First series scores are....
Shooters will take aim in six series. Updates on each scores achieved in each series here... Gagan had a slight niggle in his neck. His fans must be praying he is feeling up to the mark. Pun unintended...
The shooters are coming out, taking aim and hitting the mark. If there is a line there, Narang and Joydeep will not be far from taking their respective aims!
The 50m air rifle prone event has BEGUN!

Joydeep Karmakar, Gagan Narang wait for their turn.
And SAINA IS OUT TO PLAY HER SEMI. Get updates here
