Birmingham: The 15-year-old girl activist shot in the head by a Taliban gunman in Pakistan last month is making a steady recovery and is starting to walk, talk and read.
Malala Yousufzai, who is being treated at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, England, was photographed on Wednesday sitting up and looking through books and greetings cards,
Malala was brought to Britain by an air ambulance provided by the United Arab Emirates on October 15 after escaping death by a hair's breadth when a bullet "grazed" her brain in the attack on 9 October.
She was targeted by the Taliban after fighting for education for girls in Pakistan.
Britain's Press Association is reporting that more than 60,000 people have backed a petition calling for Malala to be awarded a Nobel Peace Prize.
