A Malaysian Airlines flight with 295 people on board from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur was reportedly shot down in rebel-held east Ukraine on Thursday.
Following the incident, in which all on board are said to be killed, many airlines have decided to avoid Ukrainian airspace.
"Our flights are not using Ukrainian airspace," said a spokeswoman of British Airways.
Air France has also issued a statement saying the airline has decided to avoid airspace of Eastern Ukraine.
Turkish Airlines, Russia's Aeroflot, Russia's Transareo, Lufthansa and Virgin Air too have decided to not use Ukrainian airspace.
