Now Loser.com redirects to the Wikipedia page of Donald Trump
Brian Connelly, the proud proprietor of Loser.com, may be one of the Internet's greatest and most underrated trolls. When a Wisconsin congressmen's antics annoyed him, he redirected the site to an article about them. When Kanye West insulted Beck, whom Connelly likes, Loser.com pointed to West's Wikipedia entry.
Now Loser.com redirects to the Wikipedia page of Donald Trump - but this time, Connelly wants to make clear that he isn't merely trolling.
"In all reality, a man who attacks Muslims, who attacks Muslim-Americans, who pushes fear and doubt - that's the definition of a loser right there," Connelly said. "I don't care for him at all."
In the years he's owned Loser.com, Connelly has never taken the domain-trolling game quite so seriously. He's had political targets in the past - Al Gore, former South Carolina governor Jim Hodges and President Barack Obama, to name a few - but says those stunts were less political statements than lazy jokes. (Connelly, who lives in South Carolina, now calls himself a "Bernie (Sanders) man" through and through.)
In 2012, he attracted the attention of Reddit by directing the site to its front page. Then, last March, he got the Internet's attention by going after West, redirecting to the artist's Wikipedia page after West said Grammy winner Beck lacked musical "artistry."
Whereas Connelly dismisses West as merely "annoying," however, he sees Trump as something else. He first changed the URL in mid-December, after Trump announced his plan to ban Muslims from entering the United States. (Connelly had actually tried to redirect it earlier, but Trump's page was defaced with porn the first time he attempted it.)
No one seemed to notice the change until Tuesday morning, however, when Trump also became a loser in electoral point of fact. He placed second in the Iowa caucuses, less than two years after tweeting that "no one remembers who came in second." He has also used Twitter to call other people "losers" on at least three dozen occasions.
"Guess who's a loser now?" the Daily Beast tweeted.
Truth be told, the only winner in all this might be Connelly, who - with his domain back in the news - is again fielding offers from prospective buyers. Will Connelly sell his newly valuable real estate or guard his own personal slice of Internet power?
"I don't have power. I have jokes," he said with a laugh, adding that he'd already turned down several offers. "But Trump likes to call people losers a lot - he should call me. He can afford it."
