London:
A man, who battered his elderly neighbour on the occasion of his 90th birthday, has been jailed for nine years in Britain.
Gavin Stubbs, 32, brutally assaulted his neighbour Cecil Darlington after calling at his home May 8 to wish him a happy birthday, the Daily Mail newspaper reported.
He broke Darlington's nose, wounded his shoulder and spine, left him with a black eye and cut his arm and forehead.
Darlington died in hospital four months later, although a pathologist said his death could not directly be linked to his attack injuries because of his age.
Stubbs, of Rhymney town in South Wales, admitted at Cardiff crown court to causing grievously bodily harm (GBH) with intent.
He has been jailed for nine years by Judge John Rogers.
