Man missing in Alps signals SOS with tree branches

London: A British adventurer who remained missing for three days while participating in the extreme sport of speed flying in the Swiss Alps was rescued from a gorge after he used tree branches to seek a search helicopter's help.

Daniel Hunt, 33, who had broken his ankle in an emergency landing, was airlifted from a 260ft-deep canyon after alerting a search helicopter by spelling out SOS with branches from a tree, Daily Express reported.

The helicopter had flown over the canyon 15 times but had failed to spot Hunt. After he was flown to hospital for a check-up, a police spokesman said, the adventurer was "very happy and very thankful".

Mr Hunt went missing Saturday after setting off on a speed flying descent with two friends.
