Stockholm: A masked man armed with a sword injured one adult and four students at a primary and middle school in Trollhattan in southwestern Sweden, police said today.
Police said they shot the assailant but did not immediately confirm his condition.
Swedish media meanwhile said the man was being treated in hospital.
"According to information from the scene there is a lot of confusion at the school. Adults and students are leaving the school hastily," a police statement said.
The Kronan school has some 400 students from kindergarten to the ninth grade, according to its website.
Trollhattan is an industrial town of 57,000 and is home to the former Swedish carmaker Saab which filed for bankruptcy in 2012.
