New Delhi:

In order to attract tourists from India this holiday season, the Mauritian government has come up with various travel packages offering 15-20 per cent discount.

The packages are being offered in association with Air Mauritius.

The Mauritian government has also roped in Gulf-based carrier Emirates Airline to fly to Mauritius from India to give boost tourism between the two countries, said Rajeev Nangia, Associate Director of TRAC, which is the marketing representative of Mauritius Tourism.

"The Mauritius government has given the right to Emirates to fly to Mauritius from India," Nangia said.

Nangia also said Air Mauritius would increase the flight frequency between the two countries to six per week from five at present.

The tourist traffic from India to Mauritius had been growing at 15 per cent annually until 2008. "With the increase in flights, we hope the numbers, which had fallen in the last few months, will again reach the 2008-level," Nangia said.

The all inclusive discount packages for 6 nights/7days starts at Rs 40,000 with return airfare, and have various options for accommodation and sight-seeing. The offer is valid till September end.
