Mexico City, Mexico: Mexican-American actress Kate del Castillo lashed out on Wednesday against reports about her relationship with drug kingpin Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, saying they "aren't truthful."

Del Castillo took to Twitter to make her first public statement about the controversy that broke out after US actor Sean Penn revealed on Saturday that she brokered his meeting with Guzman in October.

"Thank you for your support over the past days. Not surprisingly, many have chosen to make up items they think will make good stories and that aren't truthful," she wrote in English.

"I look forward to sharing my story with you," said the 43-year-old star, who became famous playing a drug lord in TV show "The Queen of the South."

Del Castillo, Penn and Guzman met in an undisclosed location in Mexico on October 2, three months after the drug lord escaped from prison.

Penn wrote about the encounter in a Rolling Stone article on Saturday, saying that Guzman wanted Del Castillo to help him make a biopic about himself.

The newspaper Milenio published on Wednesday phone text messages between Guzman and Del Castillo that were intercepted by the authorities between October and November.

In the messages, Guzman fawns over the "beautiful" actress, who in turn confesses her "dream" of meeting him.

Two Mexican government officials told AFP the messages were authentic.

Officials said Tuesday that Guzman's "almost obsessive" desire to see Del Castillo again contributed to his recapture last Friday in Los Mochis, a seaside city in his northwestern home state of Sinaloa.

Guzman left his mountain hideout because troops were circling him, but his hope of seeing her again also led him to the city, the officials said. After six months on the lam, Guzman is back in the same prison he escaped from on July 11.

Authorities are investigating whether any crimes were committed during the meeting between the actors and Guzman.
