Mexico city:
Mexican President Felipe Calderon said he has 100,000 followers on the online social networking website Twitter.
"We have reached more than 100,000 followers already interested in this way of communication. Thank you and good day to all," the president said in a post Monday.
Calderon opened his Twitter account @presidente_FCH about six weeks ago, but he did not make an official announcement about joining the online network.
The Mexican leader's site was discovered by other Twitter users and later confirmed as authentic by the Office of the President.
Calderon uses his Twitter account to comment on events, publicise his administration's achievements, issue warnings about storms and personally respond to suggestions from citizens.
