More Than 60 Snakes Rescued From Baltimore Home By Animal Shelter
Animal control rescuers found more than 60 snakes in a Baltimore home this week.
Imagine the surprise for animal control rescuers when they found more than 60 snakes in a Baltimore home.

"Yes, you read that correctly!" the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS) said in a Facebook post, in reference to the number of snakes found Tuesday night.

The snakes are, on average, four to five feet long. It was not immediately known what types of snakes they were. Nor was it known why they were taken from the home.

The animal rescue group's statement said that "no animal in need is turned away." But because it is mainly a shelter for dogs and cats, the group said it is "not equipped with supplies for emergency care for this volume of reptiles."

The shelter said it is seeking supplies to care for the reptiles and posted a link to its Amazon wish list of what the reptiles need.

Since they don't have much in terms of snake housing habitat, the animal shelter said, the snakes are "VERY [temporarily] being housed in carriers in a secure, heated room."

According to more than 200 comments on the group's Facebook page, efforts appear to be underway to find them more permanent homes through reptile rescue groups.

Among the needed supplies to care for the snakes are duct tape, drawers and storage totes, along with feeding and water dishes and heat-glo infrared spot lamps.

In its request for supplies, the animal shelter said: "Every life is a priority here at BARCS -- both furry and scales!"
