Coatzacoalcos, Mexico: A 28-year-old mother and her five children died on Thursday when a mudslide buried their home after heavy rains in Mexico's eastern state of Veracruz, authorities said.
The woman and her children -- aged 12, 11, seven, three and 18 months -- were sleeping when their modest home was hit at dawn in Xilomichi, a mountain community, said Ricardo Maza, emergency response chief at the Veracruz civil protection agency.
The father, who was injured in the tragedy, helped in the desperate search for his family, Maza said.
