Salt Lake City: A man, wanted in connection with a Colorado murder, attempted to steal a plane from a small southern Utah airport then killed himself, say officials.
St George city spokesman Marc Mortenson says 40-year-old Brian Hedglin, a SkyWest Airlines employee, scaled a razor wire fence at the St George Municipal Airport early Tuesday then boarded a SkyWest jet while the airport was closed.
Mr Mortenson says the suspect crashed the plane into some cars in a parking lot. He says a police officer then found the man inside the plane with a gunshot wound to his head.
Hedglin was wanted in connection with the death of Christina Cornejo in Colorado Springs. Her body was found Friday by police doing a welfare check at the request of her family and her death has been ruled a homicide.
