Musharraf jogged in the area where Osama was killed
London: As a military cadet, former Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf used to go for jogging next to the place where al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden was killed by US special forces.

The world's most wanted terrorist was killed in a complex in Abbottabad city near Islamabad, where he was living, just yards away from the Pakistan Military Academy. "It surprises me it was next to the Pakistan military academy," Musharraf said.

"The location is next to the place where I used to run nine miles, en route, maybe passing in front of the house. That is surprising," 'The Telegraph' quoted him as saying. The newspaper said his comments raise the prospect that military cadets regularly ran past bin Laden's compound.

Musharraf denied any knowledge of bin Laden's whereabouts when he was ruler of Pakistan from 1999 to 2008. He however admitted there was intelligence failure. "They didn't know where he was," Musharraf said adding "One can call it a failing or a shortcoming of intelligence, but then it's a shortcoming of both intelligences - Pakistan and the United States."

The city, Abbottabad, is home to thousands of soldiers.

It has come as a surprise to many that Osama was finally killed after an over 10 year manhunt in a place which is close to a Pakistani training academy, which was also visited last month by current army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.
