Myanmar said today that US President Barack Obama called his counterpart Thein Sein today to congratulate him on holding a "free and fair" election, which Aung San Suu Kyi's party is on the precipice of winning.
Obama "called President Thein Sein this morning to congratulate him and the government for successfully holding a historic free and fair general election," Information Minister Ye Htut said on his official Facebook page.
Foreign election observers have broadly endorsed Sunday's poll results.
