Islamabad: Three attacks on NATO convoys in three days on a supply route from Pakistan to Afghanistan have led to tensions between NATO and Pakistan.
At least 20 tankers carrying oil for NATO and US troops in Afghanistan were set on fire by suspected militants on Monday. It was the third such strike in as many days.
The attack took place on a crucial NATO supply route to Afghanistan that has been closed by Pakistan to protest a NATO helicopter attack that killed three Pakistani troops last week. The closure has increased tensions between Washington and Islamabad
In Brussels, Pakistan's Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi met the NATO chief Anders Fogh Rasmussen to discuss the issue.
Mr Rasmussen issued a statement saying "I expressed my regret for the incident last week in which Pakistani soldiers lost their lives...Obviously, it was unintended...It is important that we step up our cooperation in the border region... I expressed my hope that the border will be open for supplies as soon as possible."
