Nepal Army chief sends clarification to PM
Kathmandu: The Army chief of Nepal on Tuesday furnished his reply to clarifications sought from him by premier Prachanda, contending that he has not disobeyed the government's directives on removing eight generals and halting recruitment in the military.

A senior Army official submitted the clarification at the Prime Minister's Office on behalf of the Army Chief General (rpt) General Rookmangud Katawal, according to military spokesman Ramindra Chhetri, who did furnish the further details.

However, media reports here said that in his explanation letter, the Army Chief has denied all the charges labeled against him saying he has acted as per the instructions of an elected government and upheld the democratic values of the country. The Army chief also claimed that he has neither disobeyed nor violated any government's directives.

Yesterday, the government had served an ultimatum to Army chief, seeking his clarification within 24 hours, on military's recent recruitment, its hastiness in reinstating eight generals retired by the government and its decision not to participate in the National Games.
