Washington: New Orleans officials said Sunday they have recaptured a man who fatally shot a police officer while under arrest and being transported in the officer's patrol car.
Officer Daryle Holloway, 45, allegedly was shot to death by Travis Boys, while en route to jail Saturday following his arrest the previous night on an aggravated assault charge.
"From the moment that this tragic event happened, we brought together as many people and resources to track down this suspect and bring him to justice," said New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Michael Harrison said at a press conference.
Boys, 33, somehow had managed to get his handcuffed hands from behind his back and through a gap in the cage that separates the back and front seats, officials said.
Holloway, a veteran officer, was rushed to a hospital but died from his injuries.
It was not clear where Boys got the firearm, but officials said it was not the officer's gun.
