European Union leaders on early Sunday asked the European Commission to draw up a new round of sanctions against Russia within a week, EU President Herman Van Rompuy told a news conference.
"The European Council says it stands ready to take further signficant steps and urges the Commission to take urgent preparatory work and present proposals within a week," Van Rompuy said after a summit that discussed the deepening crisis in Ukraine.
