New York : The John F. Kennedy and Newark Liberty airports, both of which serve New York City, are reopening Wednesday morning after being closed for days by Hurricane Sandy, the local port authority said.
"Newark Liberty International Airport is reopened for operations as of 7:00 am on Wednesday, October 31st," the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said on their website on Wednesday morning.
"JFK is restoring many services in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, and we are planning on returning to limited service later today."
The Port Authority urged travellers to check their flight status with their airlines before coming to the airport and noted that terminals at JFK have "limited food and concessions and you should plan accordingly."
The La Guardia airport in New York and Teterboro in New Jersey, which also serve the city, remain closed.
The airports had been closed Monday as Hurricane Sandy approached the east coast.
But transportation links to the airports remain difficult, with New York City's subway system still shut down.
