London:

The British Sikh Association has awarded a leading NRI entrepreneur, Kulveer Ranger on his outstanding achievement as the Director for Transport Policy, which includes successful implementation of the Oyster card.

Indian High Commissioner to UK, Shiv Shankar Mukherjee, presented the trophy to 33-year-old Ranger in London on Thursday night at a function organised to celebrate Baisakhi and the Birth Anniversary of the Khalsa.

On receiving the award, Ranger, who was born in Hammersmith in 1975, revealed that after graduating in Architecture from University College London and getting a business degree from Kingston Business School, his first instinct was to give something back to London.

"My first instinct was to give something back to London," he said.

In May 2008, Ranger, the most senior Sikh in the Tory hierarchy, was appointed as Mayor Boris Johnson's new transport adviser and director of Transport policy. His responsibilities include overseeing the relationship between the Greater London Authority and Traffic for London.

Before joining Mayor's office, Ranger spent 10 years in management consultancy with The Nichols Group, where he focussed on delivering major transport projects in London, including the successful delivery of the Oyster card in 2003 which is quite popular now.
