One dead, several hurt in Houston-area high school stabbing

Houston: One person was killed and several others injured in a stabbing incident today at a suburban high school north of Houston in Texas, police said.

Police didn't say whether any suspects had been taken into custody, but video from the Houston television station, KHOU, showed sheriff's deputies leading two people out of Spring High School in handcuffs shortly after the stabbing.

The Harris County Sheriff's office confirmed one person had been killed and an unconfirmed number of others wounded in the incident, which apparently started in the school cafeteria.

One injured person, transported by helicopter to Memorial Hermann Texas Trauma Institute, was listed in good condition as of 10:30 a.m. local time, hospital spokeswoman Alex Rodriguez said.

Students were held in their classrooms while the district waited to hear from investigators whether they could be released, the district said in an audio statement to parents that was played on the KHOU television station.

Buses were observed lining up outside the school after 10:00 a.m.
