Mount Baldy, California:
Authorities say thunderstorms that swept through Southern California have led to the death of one person and caused mudslides that have stranded more than 2,000 people.
San Bernardino County Fire spokesman Chris Prater said a body was found in a car that was swept into a rain-swollen creek in Mount Baldy and overturned.
The storms brought flash floods that led to a few rescues, while thick debris flows cut off access to two mountain towns and stranded more than 2,000.
Authorities said the stranded in the San Bernardino Mountains include a group of 500 adults and children who had arrived at a campground Sunday morning. Crews were trying to clear the roads with bulldozers to reach the group.
The National Weather Service said the storm dumped up to 4 inches of rain in the mountains east of Los Angeles.
