London Fire Brigade says around 100 people were evacuated from the station on Sunday morning, together with a small number of people on the train.
Station Manager Norman Perry says a small section of the carriage was damaged, at it "caused a lot smoke." A small section of track also suffered damage.
Though social media lit up with images of the blaze, fire officials brought the incident under control in about 30 minutes.
The brigade says the cause of the fire is under investigation, but it believed to have been caused by an electrical fault.
