Over 10,000 militants hiding in Pak: Malik
Islamabad: Over 10,000 foreign militants were hiding in Pakistan's restive tribal belt and other areas and were backing the local Taliban, interior ministry chief Rehman Malik said on Tuesday.

He also said that the Pakistan government has "strong evidence" of the involvement of Afghans in terrorist activities in the country.

Afghan currency and weapons had been seized from terrorists arrested in the country in the past few months, Malik told reporters on the sidelines of an official function at the National Police Bureau here.

More than 10,000 foreign militants are hiding in Pakistan's tribal belt and other areas and they are backing the local Taliban and training them for terrorism, he said.

The Taliban are also receiving funding and foreign support for working against Pakistan, he claimed.

The government is pumping additional resources to build the capacity of police, paramilitary troops and security forces so that they can fight terrorism effectively. However, it will not be possible to fight terrorism without international support, he added.
