Canberra:
Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith telephoned External Affairs Minister, S M Krishna, on Monday afternoon. The Australian FM conveyed his condolences on the tragic deaths of Indian citizens in Australia in recent attacks, and said that the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of Australia had already condemned these attacks.
Concerned over the continuous assaults on Indians in Australia, Krishna had spoken to his Australian counterpart earlier in the day, asking him to expedite the investigations in these incidents on Monday.
The minister also discussed the status of the investigations going-on in these cases, besides conveying the concern of the country over these assaults.
According to the sources, the minister also raised concern over the nature of these assaults as contrary to the "opportunistic urban crime", as being maintained by the Australian authorities, nothing seems to be stolen during the attacks, indicating they might be racially motivated.
