Melbourne: Australian police have released a CCTV footage showing the final moments of Nitin Garg, the Indian student who was fatally stabbed in Melbourne earlier this month on January 2.

The footage shows 22-year-old Nitin Garg, an accounting graduate before he was fatally stabbed, sitting on a bench in Yarraville railway station. He then gets up looking for the train. The pictures show him wearing a black and white striped hooded jumper.

Garg, who hailed from Ludhiana in Punjab, was on his way to work at a restaurant when he was attacked. He staggered into the outlet with stab wounds before collapsing. He was rushed to hospital but didn't survive.

The Victoria police have also done a reconstruction of the crime scene as part of the investigation.

As part of the re-enactment, the group walked from Yarraville station up Anderson Street, and to the path Nitin took leading to Hungry Jack's restaurant.

An information caravan has been set up in Melbourne where anyone with any information on the stabbing can come forward and give details.

"We would hope that any person who hasn't provided information or hasn't come forward yet, it may jog something in their mind and they would then contact the police in relation to that," said David Snare, Detective Senior Sergeant.
