Islamabad:
Pakistan's ISI chief Lieutenant General Shuja Pasha has visited Qatar where he met US officials, sparking speculation of an attempt to mend troubled ties, a media report said on Friday.
The visit led to speculation about an "intelligence back channel" between Pakistan and the US, the Dawn reported.
The visit took place amid strained ties following the November 26 NATO airstrikes on two Pakistani Army checkposts in Mohmand Agency that killed two dozen soldiers. The incident sparked outrage in Pakistan and Islamabad barred the passage of NATO supplies through the country. It also decided to boycott the Bonn conference held earlier this month to discuss Afghanistan's future.
The media report quoted western diplomatic sources on the meeting with US officials. It said that the ISl chief's visit to Qatar, which is the US Central Command's regional headquarters, had been authorised by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.
