Terrorists opened fire at the official car of Religious Affairs Minister Hamid Saeed Kazmi, in a crowded market in Islamabad on Wednesday.
The minister has been injured and his driver has died. Television reports said the minister had been wounded in his legs.
TV channel GEO news said the car was fired at from different directions by attackers on motorcycles.
The footage beamed by channels showed blood spattered on the seats of Kazmi's car and on the road. The bullets shattered the car's windscreen and also pierced the doors on one side.
The car veered off the road and hit a tree after the attack while the gunmen fled from the scene, reports said.
Kazmi had been receiving terror threats after he condemned suicide attacks and militant activity.
The Interior Ministry had recently asked all federal ministers to be careful during their movements due to threats from the Pakistani Taliban.
