Islamabad: Pakistan's National Assembly today unanimously passed a resolution rejecting the anti-government protesters' demand for the resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and dissolution of the Parliament.
Protest leaders Imran Khan and Tahir-ul Qadri camping in the capital have demanded that Sharif should quit and assemblies be dissolved.
The resolution by Mahmood Khan Achakzai also deplored derogatory, defamatory and inflammatory language used by the protest leaders in their speeches against the prime minister and parliament.
The house agreed that supremacy of the Constitution, sovereignty of parliament and the rule of law were important pillars of democracy.
It reiterated its resolve to ensure that the democratic system should continue to function and flourish in accordance with the provision of the Constitution.
National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq was in the chair. The house also continued debate on the current political situation in the country. Sharif is also attending the assembly session.
Later the house adjourned to meet tomorrow when it is expected that Sharif will give a policy statement.
