Islamabad: Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family had a scare on Sunday after a suspicious car approached the convoy in which they were traveling, according to reports in the Pakistani media.
At the time, Mr Sharif was returning from the hill resort of Murree to Islamabad with his wife and daughter Maryam.
The car, which apparently attempted to overtake Mr Sharif's convoy, was forced off the road and its driver was taken into custody. He was identified as Hafees-ur-Rehman, a retired Air Commodore of the Pakistan Air Force, who was traveling with his family, reported Geo TV.
The former officer has since been released, the report said.
Security agencies in Pakistan have been on high alert since Malik Ishaq, the leader of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi militant outfit, was killed in an encounter with police last week.
According to police sources, Mr Sharif was travelling without routine heavy protocol and detailed security arrangement.
Mr Sharif, they said, often travels incognito with minimum security to Murree and other places.
