Philippine girl kept hostage for 10 years
Manila: A Philippine court has convicted seven Chinese men in the kidnapping of a daughter of a Taiwanese-Filipino businessman 10 years ago.

The court has now sentenced each of them 40-year prison terms without parole.

One of the seven who had been deported to China was sentenced-in-absentia today. Kidnap victim Rowena Jacky Tiu says she thanks God "for the justice I rightfully deserve".

Police arrested the suspects who held her, for eight days, shortly after they released her at the Manila airport following her father's 10-million peso (then USD 194,000) ransom payment.

Tiu later married retired national police Chief Arturo Lomibao who was then police commander in the northern Philippine region where she was kidnapped in 2001.
