Plane Makes Emergency Landing In Sydney After Hitting Bird

Sydney: A United Airlines flight from Sydney to Los Angeles was forced to make an emergency landing after striking a bird.

United Airlines spokesman Jonathan Guerin says Flight 840 struck the bird shortly after takeoff from Sydney Airport on Monday morning. The plane turned around and landed safely a short time later. No one on board was injured.

Guerin says the plane has been temporarily taken out of rotation for maintenance. The extent of the damage to the plane was not immediately known.
