Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Washington DC Thursday (local time) for a bilateral meeting with President Donald Trump. He also met US intel chief Tulsi Gabbard and will later meet tech billionaire Elon Musk.
The meeting between the two leaders comes amid heightened tensions surrounding Trump's trade tariffs on several countries, his controversial Gaza peace plan, and his ongoing mass deportation of illegal immigrants. These issues are likely to feature prominently in their discussions as both leaders seek to strengthen bilateral ties.
PM Modi will be the fourth global leader to meet Trump at the White House since his inauguration on January 20. The US President has already hosted Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Japan's Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, and Jordan's King Abdullah during the early weeks of his second presidency.

When PM Modi Last Met Trump
During Donald Trump's first term as US President, he and PM Modi shared an amicable bond, exchanging hugs and compliments. While the US gave a rousing welcome to PM Modi at a 2019 event in Texas, Trump's Ahmedabad visit in 2020 too saw great fanfare.
Known to have shared perceptions of China and radical Islam, and their leaderships styles characteristic of strongmanship and economic nationalism, a stream of compliments have often figured in their comments about each other. While Trump once called Modi the "nicest human", Modi has called the US President his "dear friend".

Modi-Trump Meet: What's Likely On The Agenda?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be hosted by the US President Donald Trump in what would be the first bilateral talks between the two leaders after Trump assumed the presidency for a second term last month.
With Trump's tariff policy sending shockwave across the world, Modi's key priority is likely to be to pre-empt any punitive trade action by Washington against India. In their meeting, the two leaders are likely to broadly focus on ramping up India-US cooperation in sectors like trade, investment, energy, defence, technology and immigration.
The prime minister's visit to the American capital comes days after the Trump administration deported 104 Indians in handcuffs and shackles on a military aircraft that sparked outrage in India.
