Melbourne: Security camera vision has been released of an extraordinary incident in which a baby escaped serious injury after his pram was hit by a train in Australia.
The baby's pram rolled off the platform into the path of an oncoming train at Ashburton station in east Melbourne on Thursday afternoon.
The mother was waiting on the platform when she was distracted for a moment, and the pram containing her baby son rolled onto the track just as the train arrived, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported.
The train driver activated emergency brakes but the pram was pushed about 40 metres (131 feet) along the tracks. Incredibly, the boy wasn't seriously injured.
He was examined at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, and allowed to return home on Thursday night.
"It was a lucky escape and a chance for commuters to think about heeding warnings to be more careful around platforms," said Sergeant Michael Ferwerda of Victoria Police.
The incident happened a day after Connex launched a child safety awareness campaign.
It's believed the child wasn't seriously injured because his pram was fitted with a safety restraint.
