London: Kate Middleton will miss her brother-in-law Prince Harry's Invictus Games' opening ceremony in London due to pregnancy-related sickness.

The Duchess of Cambridge, who is expecting her second baby, is suffering from acute morning sickness and is being treated at her home in Kensington Palace.

Kate was due to attend the launch of the inaugural Invictus Games -- Prince Harry's new venture for injured servicemen and women -- which will feature an exclusive performance of the official anthem penned by Coldplay's Chris Martin as well as a flypast from the Red Arrows over the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London.

"The Duchess of Cambridge will not attend the opening ceremony of the Invictus Games this evening or the athletics event tomorrow. The Duchess' attendance on the forthcoming visit to Malta will be kept under review and a decision taken closer to the time," a Kensington Palace spokesperson said.

Kate had missed a visit to Oxford with husband William earlier this week for the same reason.
She is suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum, the same form of severe morning sickness that left her hospitalised when she was pregnant with Prince George.

Her visit to Malta was organised to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the island's independence, and is scheduled to include meetings with the President and Prime Minister, Independence Day celebrations and a boat tour of the Grand Harbour in Valletta.
